Who am I?

My name is Jaz Macdonald (she/her)

I love talking about all things pregnancy and birth and have been working in the birth field since 2015 when I attended my first Doula training with DONA International. I am a ProDoula Certified Childbirth Educator (PDCCE) and Certified Birth and Bereavement Doula (SBD). I am a Registered Nurse working in Pediatrics (currently on maternity leave). I am also working towards the Perinatal Nursing Specialty through BCIT. I also participated in a week-long Midwife Assistant training at the Farm Midwifery center in Tennessee.

This background has given me an appreciation for births in all settings, knowing that the most important thing is that you give birth where you feel safe! It has also given me an immense passion for advocacy and informed decision-making during birth, which is why I decided to pursue nursing.

Why choose this class?

Clients very often enter the class feeling a bit nervous and scared of birth. My favorite part of childbirth education is seeing expecting parents leave at the end of the series feeling relieved, excited, and prepared to birth their baby. I am a strong believer that knowing what to expect, knowing your options, and having some tools to help you navigate labour and birth have a HUGE on having a more positive experience.

My background as a doula combined with my knowledge from my nursing program and specialty courses has given me a well-rounded appreciation for all types of births, in all types of settings. The most important thing is that you know what your options are, and that your wishes are heard and respected. Most of the time, there is more than one way to reach a desired outcome, and childbirth classes help you know what those options are.
